All the things!
For tools, here are the items I recommend getting:
- Makita Die Grinder - you do not need to get this specific die grinder, any will work, even a pneumatic one, as long as it can accept carving burrs with 1/4" shank.
- Sphere carving burr - I would recommend getting both a course and fine burr as this will save you in sanding time.
- Flame carving burr - Again, I would recommend getting both a course and fine burr to save time in sanding.
- You can accomplish a lot with just having sphere and flame shaped carving burrs. However, if you would like a little bit more flexibility of what type to use, I would highly recommend getting both a course and fine tapered carving burr as well.
**A few of the above links are affiliate links. This means that I may receive a small percentage of the sale of an item you purchase. However, these are all products I personally own and have purchased with my own money. I have tried all brands and types of carving burrs on the market and these are the ones with the highest quality and will last you a great deal of time.
